Here’s how the ELiMS EAS Security Gates Work

If a patron has borrowed all items correctly all items will be disarmed to allow the patron to walk through the gates without the alarm sounding

• If a patron walks through the gates with “Armed” items the gate’s alarm will sound

and strobe lights will flash

• To disarm items, staff must gather all items from the patron and return to a staff station

• Select the Arm/Disarm Button select “View”

• Place 1 item at a time on the reader until the Armed items are identified

(On right side of the screen the status will say Armed or Disarmed)

• Next, scan the patron’s library card and select borrow on the main screen

• The items will then be disarmed to allow the patron to exit the Library with their borrowed

items without the alarm sounding

• The alarm should sound for about 3 seconds and then turn off automatically

• To reset the alarm or the people counter, simply press the designated button on the Gate Controller box, located behind the circulation desk
